National Lipstick Day

In honor of National Lipstick Day I wanted to feature a few favorites. Im not a usual lipstick wearer per se, more of a lip gloss fan however a pop of color on the lips can really change your look. In a woman’s lifetime she consumes about 5 lbs of lipstick so its important that its safe. Most lipsticks contain huge amounts of lead and heavy metals. These heavy metals are linked to a myriad of health concerns. Learn more about this at safecosmetics.org.

Here is one of my Lead-Free favorites:

Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation

Wearing makeup in the summer is a tricky thing, let alone trying to find chemical-free options. In a recent visit t to CAP Beauty in NYC I picked up a new Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation.  The coverage was perfect, it gave my face a nice glow and had buildable coverage.

Chock full of plant oils to replenish and fine mineral pigments along with Vapour’s proprietary Herbal Enlightenment Complex, which includes an infusion of Frankincense, Tulsi and Lotus to help soothe, calm and protect.

ATMOSPHERE LUMINOUS FOUNDATION, $44

Launching Clean & Green Beauty

Clean & Green Beauty was started from countless hours of researching products and ingredients in hopes to avoid toxins in our everyday products. Being overwhelmed and confused, I’ve found many resources and brands that my family and I have come to love.  I look forward to sharing with you some of my favorites.

When I became pregnant with my son, James, I started researching what I was putting on my face and came to find that my everyday face cream was chock full of formaldehyde. From that very moment, was a major spring cleaning. None of the information I found was clear.  It was hard to find a jar of something where I could pronounce everything on the ingredient list, and know what it was. I came to come to find that the FDA hasn’t updated its regulation on personal care products since 1938. And, that the US only bans 30 ingredients versus 1400 in the EU.  80% of ingredients have never been tested for safety. How I was so unaware of this was beyond me. Many think, does it really matter?  Let’s not forget, what we put on our skin get easily and readily absorbed in our bloodstream. Just think about a nicotine patch on your arm. It’s the fastest way to get the drug into your bloodstream without smoking. Many of these chemicals we are putting on our bodies can lead to birth defects, disrupt our endocrine systems, and can cause cancer.  Its a new area of health that is getting a lot of attention and my hope is to help spread the word about some amazing products that are clean and green!

Enjoy!

Heidi
